JAM PROOF CENTRAL CONTEST WINNERS

IF AT FIRST YOU DON’T SUCCEED…

“After I tried strenuously to rip the paper out, I tried to remove the paper jam with an envelope opener. This resulted in failure, so I continued on by using a pair of scissors, which only scratched the surface! I then tried using a flat screwdriver. Needless to say, time was moving on, my productivity time was going down and my frustration level was moving up!! I then tried tweezers and a thin wire. None of the above worked, so I scratched a sign that said OUT OF ORDER and placed it in full view on the shredder and went to the coffee room for a well-deserved break.”

GUMMING UP THE WORKS

“Bubble gum, lots of bubble gum, pushed into the underside of the shredder teeth to grab the bits of partially-shredded paper. Then using the CO2 keyboard cleaner spray to freeze the bubble gum, then pry it out with a screwdriver. Had some good results, but sometimes not even this helped.”

Marcin Michalek

A BIG HAIRY DEAL

“I got myself in a big jam and used a heavy-duty, custom-bent paper clip for the big chunks, then a blow dryer for the detail work. I only recommend the blow dryer approach outside. Trust me, it can make a big mess.”

Cheri Krueger

BY HOOK OR BY CROOK

“I have a little tool with a hook on the end that I use to clear out the jammed paper from my shredder. After every 2 or 3 papers, I have to unplug and dig out the jammed paper with my little tool. Then I try running the machine, stop again and dig some more. It would be easier to chew the paper up!!!”

Elizabeth Allotta

SHARP THINKING

“Using a diamond-power-edged hacksaw blade, I was able to clear a bad paper jam which had several staples and other stuff layered within it. Of course, I wore a leather glove to directly handle the blade so it could be guided into the shredder’s paper slot. Oh, did I say, I ended up throwing this paper shredder away soon thereafter? :)”

Kevin Shaffer

HANG IT UP

“In a pinch I used wire cutters on a wire hanger and created a makeshift shredder de-jam-i-fier. It didn’t quite work the way I planned.”

Nick Johnson

IN THROUGH THE OUT DOOR

“Hi, I’ve used the plastic spray tubes like those found on WD-40 cans to push the paper through the shredder trying to clear a jam…incidentally from both sides – the normal paper entry as well as the paper exit.”

Paul Bilodeau

JUST ADD WATER

“I had a bunch of paper in the shredder. I tried pliers first and the paper just broke off. Then I took the top of the shredder apart and poured water in the wheels to soften up the paper so I could pull it out. It worked, but very messy.”
